Abstract
first year of the Sebastian Piñera government are analyzed. It is argued that the former government implemented a series of welfare-type social policies focused on reducing extreme poverty, while the current government took on this long term strategy without seeming to engage in discussions about new poverty-reduction policies. Indeed, President Piñera has hinted at deepening the welfare-type nature of poverty reduction, while improving on specific aspects deemed unsatisfactory.
