Abstract

Despite the undeniable advances of the inter-American protection system, there is still a long way to go. In accordance with this, this paper proposes which aspects to emphasize, highlighting that this work must be done in a new context of democratic transition, which requires a broad vision that encompasses all areas of the person. It is explained in what circumstances the system will reach its fullness in the normative, operational and institutional levels. It then refers to the potential for action of the Inter-American Commission and Court and what must be done so that they respond to existing expectations and fully fulfill their functions. We hold that this must be done within the framework of the universality of human rights and, in this sense; the inter-American system for the protection of human rights can make a great contribution.
